The 9th International Conference on Hydroelasticity in Marine Technology
10-13 July 2022
Rome, Italy

About HYEL22 - After conference notes
Updated July 19th
The 9th International Conference on Hydroelasticity in Marine Technology (HYEL22) has been held in Rome, Italy from July 10th to 13th, 2022, both as an in-person and remote event.
The HYEL22 was organized by Institute of Marine Engineering of CNR (National Research Council).

The live conference presentations were 47, 24 planned in-presence and 23 remotely, but because of last time changes, in-presence presentations were 22.

A plenary discussion about "Current and emerging topics in hydroelasticity" was successfully held on July 12th. Minutes of this discussion will be shared among attendees and a brief summary published on this website.
Message from conference chairmen
2022
One year later than the scheduled deadline, the HYEL conference again offers the opportunity to meet and discuss progress in the theoretical, numerical and experimental analysis of fluid-structure interaction problems in the field of marine engineering.

The countermeasures against the spread of the virus and its consequences have imposed a different way of working, increased physical distances but also pushed us to collaborate more assiduously through video conferences, messaging systems or social networks. We have therefore experienced the possibilities they offer us, but also the limits.

We are convinced that traveling to attend a live presentation, or sharing moments of conviviality with other colleagues, are important elements to increase existing contacts and find new ones. Therefore, we will strive to do it in the best way and, most of all, safely. At the same time, we are aware that not all barriers will be able to fall in a few months, and we want to leave open the possibility that there will be participation even remotely for those who are unable to travel.
Rome, with its history and its art, but also with its popular streets and its amazing views, is ready to welcome you, as recent G20 global event recently showed. At the same time, we are ready to contribute to a new start for the scientific and engineering community that revolves around the Hydroelasticity in Marine Technology Conference.

Welcome to HYEL 2022 in Rome!

The HYEL conference
About
The HYEL conference series started in Trondheim, Norway, in 1994 and has been held every 3 years till last one in Seoul, Korea. Due to pandemic wave, it was postponed from 2021 to 2022.
Topics
Hydroelasticity is concerned with phenomena involving mutual interactions between hydrodynamic, inertial and elastic forces. Simulations interfacing algorithms specifically devoted to solving fluid or structure domains, as well as reduced order modelling of strongly coupled phenomena, have been typically welcome as conference topics. The increasing variety of marine structures, currently operating and proposed for development, sets new challenges to accurately and efficiently describe fluids-structure interactions.
New challenges in special sessions
The conference will introduce four special sessions to keep up with recent technological trends and exploration of new research areas related to hydroelasticity.
